I spent time in Moshi, Tanzania early this year volunteering at Newlands Orphanage where I met the most incredible, inspiring children. There are no kids in the world like these kids. From the moment myself and fellow volunteers walked in we were greeted with hugs, kisses and a song. I have never felt so special in my life. I fell in love with these kids and I could barely find the courage to say goodbye.
At the orphanage simple things like underwear and shoes are insufficient. Mattresses are ruined and sheets are lacking. In the nursery school the chairs are falling apart because of wear and tear, in addition, there aren’t enough chairs for all the kids so they must be shared. The kids are also always fighting to share pencils. There were about 40 kids at the school, but less than half of these children have a uniform. These are just a few examples of the challenges these kids face on a daily basis.
There is a lot that can be done to help these children and even though there are tons of generous volunteers helping at the orphanage and contributing new supplies they still need a lot of help. If you can make a donation, then everyone in Newlands would be so grateful. Any contribution can make a difference – large or small. Please inquire by responding in the comments or sending me a message. You can also visit the Newlands Orphanage Facebook page to find more details on how you can help make a difference.
