The most amazing sight I have seen in a long time, Perito Moreno Glacier. Located in the Patagonia region of Argentina an hour and a half from the town of El Calafate.
Maybe it is because I have never seen a glacier before (especially of this scale) but I was so impressed by Perito Moreno Glacier. I didn’t even notice the rain or heavy winds thrown upon us because I was so distracted by this beautiful sight.
For anyone who has travelled to Patagonia I’m sure you know it is not cheap. I was on a tight budget and could not shell out cash for a taxi or car rental. However, this is not necessary anyways because the bus to Perito Moreno Glacier is super simple. There are plenty of bus companies making the trip daily. Most companies offer two time slots leaving between 8:00 – 9:30am or 2:30pm. I chose the 9:30 am bus with RP Transport and arrived at the glacier at 11:00am. The bus left us to enjoy the sight for 3.5 hours and picked us up at 3:30 arriving back in El Calafate at 5:00pm.
Here is my cost for the full day:
Bus: $450 ARS return (The 2:30pm bus is $400 ARS saving you $50 ARS. I didn’t opt for this because I thought the light would be better in the morning for photos. Although, this is a great option to save money and avoid the crowds).
Entry: $330 ARS
Packed lunch: $150 ARS
Total: $930 ARS
Boat (optional): $350 ARS
The boat is a good option if you want to get a little bit closer to the glacier. I wasn’t interested therefore cannot advise if it was worth it or not but from my perspective there are so many paths and walkways that allow for stunning views of the glacier so I did not feel like the boat ride was necessary. If you are interested you can purchase the tickets at the restaurant next to the entrance.
